A model of entrepreneurship and of multipurpose use is the historic Montofoli Estate in the greek countryside, and more specifically in Karystos. If you”d like to know the history of the estate at www.montofoli.gr you can find all the information about the original buildings dating from the era after the fourth Crusade, a historic period known in Greece as Frankokratia or Rule of the Franks.
The revival of the estate happened thanks to the Karakosta”s family, who own it since 1986. Their love and knowledge led them to the viniculture of the abandoned vineyards. They enriched them with grape varieties from other areas and finally achieved the production of exceptional wines. Among them is the internationally awarded Montofoli natural sweet wine. They also renovated the historic buildings, making them inhabitable for visitors who have more reasons to visit a place that is similar to Tuscany.
This year, in an effort to target the thematic tourism and attract more visitors not only in their estate but also in the wider region of Karystos, they organise The First Music Festival. With the support of the municipality of Karystos and the French Institute of Greece, the Montofoli Estate organises a two-day music festival, from baroque to jazz on the 22nd & 23rd of June 2012 with the participation of musicians from 22 countries.
